I have never written a review on here, but, not unlike Prince Harry, I am breaking my silence。 I initially gave this book a rating of three stars, but upon further reflection, I could not live with myself。 This book was not good。 Cool workouts though。

I don't know。。。 Comes across like a marketing strategy to promote the hwpo programming and the feeding the frasers cookbook。。。 Which is fair enough。 It's a short book that you can read in one sitting。 I don't know。。。 Comes across like a marketing strategy to promote the hwpo programming and the feeding the frasers cookbook。。。 Which is fair enough。 It's a short book that you can read in one sitting。 。。。more

Good work!

I had bigger expectations for this book, my fault。 Nevertheless, I liked to know the background through his stories。 It may be a good book for someone starting crossfit and deciding to give it a try to compete。 Definitely not what the core of Crossfit is。

Kevin

Mat tells of his journey in being a champion, hard work required - filled with practical advice, exercises helps and tips besides meals suggestions。

I liked reading the technical details about workouts, nutrition, and competing in CrossFit games。 I'm just a bit put off by the classical stereotypical American patriarchal alfa male hubris and attitude, but I guess that is what it takes to become an Olympic champion。 Some more vulnerability would do the sport, its role models and aspiring athletes a lot of good。 I liked reading the technical details about workouts, nutrition, and competing in CrossFit games。 I'm just a bit put off by the classical stereotypical American patriarchal alfa male hubris and attitude, but I guess that is what it takes to become an Olympic champion。 Some more vulnerability would do the sport, its role models and aspiring athletes a lot of good。 。。。more

This book is just a huge fascinating twitter thread。

Loved it。 Not my usual read but engaging and useful。

Getting an inside look into the mind of a professional athlete was fascinating。 It’s nuts what the elite CrossFit athletes are willing to put their bodies through to make it to the top。 A good read for any crossfitters out there

Not bad, BUT I expected more

Emilie Dawson

Great programming, story organization and breakup with recipes was jarring。

I expected more from this one, but impossible to don't give 5 stars, my whole training approach changed after reading this。 I expected more from this one, but impossible to don't give 5 stars, my whole training approach changed after reading this。 。。。more

Okay, I had fun with this book, but only because I love Crossfit and really enjoyed watching Fraser compete。 If you aren’t into both of those things, this book will suck, hard。

Been a massive fan of Mat for years, this book was incredible。 Being such an avid fan, alot of the stories I had heard before from interviews and podcasts。 Getting some of the insights to Mats training, injuries and games moments was really eye opening。 He pulls apart workouts, helps you understand the fundamentals and makes you question your training insecurities and it really shows why he was the 5x champ。 My only wish was future copies, is that the meals have calorie countsThankyou Mat for su Been a massive fan of Mat for years, this book was incredible。 Being such an avid fan, alot of the stories I had heard before from interviews and podcasts。 Getting some of the insights to Mats training, injuries and games moments was really eye opening。 He pulls apart workouts, helps you understand the fundamentals and makes you question your training insecurities and it really shows why he was the 5x champ。 My only wish was future copies, is that the meals have calorie countsThankyou Mat for such great book and I hope to get it signed one day 。。。more

A good book with lots of information。 Enjoyed the stories。 Would have been better if Matt read it all。 (Audiobook)

I was expecting the book to be more about Mat’s path to becoming the CrossFit Games champion。 Instead there were a few stories but it was more of a “how to” guide。

As a huge fan of Mat Fraser, I honestly have to say that I expected more from this book。 As a whole, it is neatly laid out in sections。 Fraser details his personal rise from someone who was playing around with weights as a teenager, to learning how to properly lift at an Olympic Weightlifting gym, to his humble beginnings as a Crossfitter while in college, and finally to his 5x Fittest Man on Earth awards。While I didn't expect him to fully lay out his routines (a true master never reveals his se As a huge fan of Mat Fraser, I honestly have to say that I expected more from this book。 As a whole, it is neatly laid out in sections。 Fraser details his personal rise from someone who was playing around with weights as a teenager, to learning how to properly lift at an Olympic Weightlifting gym, to his humble beginnings as a Crossfitter while in college, and finally to his 5x Fittest Man on Earth awards。While I didn't expect him to fully lay out his routines (a true master never reveals his secrets。。。shh), this book felt like it was more of him patting his own back。 Felt like maybe he was trying to one-up that disaster of a book that was Rich Froning's autobiography。 Although I will give it to Fraser that his recipes and general workout routines were not bad。I just felt that maybe Fraser was trying to simply cobble some stuff together and call this a training guide。 If it's that then it's fine。 But it felt rushed and lacking a framework。 。。。more

To be honest, I’m not sure how to rate this book。 I really wanted it to be insights into Mat’s career as an athlete and memories from the games and things he learned along the way。 Instead, it read like a coach’s manual with illustrations, and Sammy’s recipes intertwined。 There were some fun things to read, but overall it was a quick read because it wasn’t at all what I thought it was。 This might be great for the next level of elite athletes, but for me it just didn’t do the trick。

Gina Ris

Love Mat, love his legacy, love what he’s done for the sport。 Super easy read, pretty basic writing。

Dustin Riedesel

Insightful, interesting, and PRACTICAL。 This is less of a story and more of a how-to manual, which I greatly appreciated。

Denilinheart

The book had basically a little bit of everything, but also nothing。 I would appreciate much more some insight into Mat’s mental preparation, his feelings, POV, stories… but its a mash up of everything - few movements combos which u can find in every programming, few recipes which you can find easily online, few descriptions of movement everyone who does crossfit a little knows… its just a big NO from me。

Kate Taelman

Mat Fraser is an amazing athlete, one I admire。 This book has many great take aways for all athletes but a lot of it is technical and Crossfit specific。 I enjoyed reading it though。

Duane

It was good。 More of a training diary / recipe book。Some interesting parts if you a coach。

Ryan Zaleski

Really enjoyed it extremely informative book。 Love how detailed he is with his training how he breaks down events。 The calculated risks he manages。 The rower hack was very good knowledge for me。

Sarah Hill

DNF。 I was hoping for a memoir and this was more like a how to win the games, with his ego sprinkled in。 I’m not in a current stage of life where I need to read that spending hours at the gym is the only way to get better, and I’m not a Games Athlete so that will never be a part of my lifestyle。 Not helpful for the general athlete, and his boasting about how good he is at everything got pretty old pretty fast。

Luikart

He is the fittest。 Not interesting to read

Its a pretty good read。 It will give you a peek into the mind of a man who won 5 consecutive games and along the way you will learn a little more about diet and exercise。 The biggest issue I had is the layout。 Its like they had a beautifully structured book reminiscent of Arnold's Bodybuilding Encyclopedia when the printer dropped it all on the floor and threw it back together hoping no one would nice。 There is stuff everywhere! As much as I like Mat as a personality, this book wasn’t that great。The recipes sprinkled in randomly were not really useful - they would have probably been better off as an online supplementary page/doc。I felt similarly about the workouts that were mentioned in the book。 They were interesting but I’m not really well-versed in exercise science enough to know how to add it to my programming。Diagrams of performing specific movements were useful when it highlighted things that Mat does differently As much as I like Mat as a personality, this book wasn’t that great。The recipes sprinkled in randomly were not really useful - they would have probably been better off as an online supplementary page/doc。I felt similarly about the workouts that were mentioned in the book。 They were interesting but I’m not really well-versed in exercise science enough to know how to add it to my programming。Diagrams of performing specific movements were useful when it highlighted things that Mat does differently to the conventional movement pattern。 But some were just re-iterating common movement standards。The enjoyable part for me was the insight into Mat’s life and what it took behind the scenes to be 5x CrossFit Games champion。 I would have liked more insight here - there is stuff that I have heard in YouTube videos about him that I haven’t seen mention in his book like his approach to low-impact training。I was left wanting to hear more about his CrossFit stories and his encounters with Dave Castro, his rivalry with Noah Ohlsen, and how he feels about passing the baton to Justin Medeiros。 。。。more

It’s an interesting book。 Mat’s story is compelling。 Personally, I have no interest in CrossFit, but his advice is pretty solid for an any kind of athletic pursuit。 There’s also a decent amount of recipes for meals here that are designed to suite training。 Overall, I think if you pursue a sport and have heard Mat on a podcast and found him interesting it’s worth a read。 You’ll probably find a few nuggets to take away for improving your own physical fitness and mental fortitude。
